Ideas For Corporate Promotional Gifts

By Shanna McNeil

New business owners who want to maximize their profits cannot ignore the benefits of giving corporate promotional gifts. There are easy steps to follow when choosing what kinds of items to give to what clients, or potential clients. Marketing professionals for years have known the importance of this aspect of advertising.

First of all, the company logo should always be on the gift, with out exception. Without the logo, the customer may not even remember where the item came from, and that does not promote the corporation in any long-term sense. The logo should be almost obnoxiously large, bright-lettered, and it should be something that they will see constantly during the course of their day.

Usefulness of the item is going to be key in achieving a successful promotion. Something that the receiver uses every day, or sees constantly during their work day, is going to keep the business in their mind all the time. If they have not already made the decision to use the business as a vendor or service, then having this reminder, combined with follow up phone calls, helps increase the likelihood a business relationship will be created.

Obvious choices are staplers or a staple puller, a desk tray organizer, a calendar pad for the top of the desk, pens, or high-lighters. These are all items that can display a logo, and will be very useful to the people who receive them. These items are all inexpensive and can be given out not only to the contact at the business, but to their employees as well.

The employees of an organization should never be forgotten when corporate gift giving takes place, especially the administrative assistant. Often this is the person who will be the first point of contact in any business relationship, and their input in what vendors or services to use will be considered. Secretaries and administrators should never be ignored.

It is also a good idea to make the gift an item which represents the service being provided. For example, an answering service might want to give out self-adhesive telephone message pads. Not only is this an inexpensive idea, and it contains the company logo, but it can provide the potential client with a constant reminder that they need a telephone answering service.

The value of the gift given should also depend on the value of the client. A customer who has given the business a lot of money over the course of a year should get a quality gift during the Holidays. A lesser customer can get less expensive gifts. Also, in determining a gift for a potential client, it should be determined how much money the client is going to be worth over the course of the next year.

With a few simple guidelines, a new business owner can make the most of the corporate promotional gifts as marketing tools. The importance of providing excellent service is a given; however, a useful and acceptable gift can also promote word-of-mouth advertising. Small business owners can use the same tricks that marketing executives have been using for decades.
