It Makes Sense To Use A Stump Grinding Service

By Michelle Howe

For whatever reasons people often choose to cut down their own trees. Perhaps they are old and disease ridden, or maybe they have grown too large or are too close to the house. One thing that people tend to take into consideration is what are they going to do with the base of the tree that they are left with. Some that have given this some thought beforehand have already contacted a stump grinding service.

Nothing can grow where this bit of tree is, apart from some unsightly fungus. There is also a high probability that the root system is still alive. This can mean that another tree from that root system could then grow up through your prize ornamental rose bed. The only real way to prevent this happening calls for drastic measures. Something that the average householder is not qualified to do.

In years past, or in more rural areas, there were several ways that this problem was approached. All of them could be quite labor intensive, as it entailed digging beneath the root ball. Blasting was a very effective method, although with plenty of windows about, maybe not a viable solution for a residential zone.

Fires were also built beneath them, and the blackened remains were then hauled away. With so many areas being smokeless zones today, this is also probably not viable. So that could also be discounted from the list of possibilities.

The final method that used to be used was basically brute force. Chains or ropes were secured to the remaining section of tree, and using either farm machinery or horses it was pulled from the ground as the root system was cut through with saws and axes.

All of the methods detailed above took a fair amount of time. Not only that, but they would also leave a sizable hole behind, which would also need time spent on it afterwards. Even though the task was completed, it was as though just as many problems were caused by solving a problem in the first place.

One thing that a professional company will be able to tell you straightaway is whether that bit of tree needs to remain. It might be holding an embankment in place with its root system. In which case it can be cut quite low to the ground so that it isn't obvious. Sympathetic planting will also help to further mask the problem.

What many people want is a service which will cause the minimum amount of disruption. They just want that unsightly remnant of tree gone. Imagine if it could be ground away to well below the surface of the earth. The wood chips can either be taken away or used by the customer as wood mulch on their flowerbeds.

Consequently most people now use a stump grinding service. Their machinery does not need you to provide vehicle access, it can even get to hard to reach areas. Experienced companies know what they are doing, they operate safe working practices, and above all else provide the minimum amount of disruption to the customer.
