Basics On Online Disc Assessment

By Leticia Morton

A DISC personality test that can be taken online is often referred to as an online DiSC assessment. This is a tool employed for behavioral assessment and comes from the DISC theory of William Marston, a psychologist. The theory that Marston presented includes four key personality traits present in humans: compliance, dominance, submission and inducement.

The theory of Marston was developed into a tool for assessment by industrial psychologist named Walter Vernon Clarke, who did it to help identify varying personality types. The version that is used for this test is that made from an adaption done by John Grier of the original assessment. Grier simplified the original test as a way to achieve results that were better and more concise.

This exam is used for many different applications in real life. Many companies use it as a tool for the screening of potential employees. The reason for this is because there is a widely help belief that the personality of an individual may make it better or worse for a certain job or position.

Furthermore, the test is commonly used in the educational world, especially when it comes to putting together coursework and classes for specific students. In online versions, the results from the test may be used to aid in understanding the needs and personality of students. This is particularly helpful for online teachers because this type of learning environment does not permit as much interaction between the students and the teachers. Instructors might use test results to build more effective lesson plans.

DISC is used for leadership too. There are many different methods and styles for leading people. The different personality traits are associated with varying techniques. This exam can determine what actions to take in dealing with various issues related to leadership. They can also be beneficial in identifying the personalities within a group, solving issues and assigning various tasks.

DiSC is the acronym of the personality traits, which are also known as influence, drive, steadiness, and conscientiousness or caution. Drive or dominance involves wanting control and power in situations. These people are usually assertive. Inducement or influence relates to handling of social situations and communication. Submission or steadiness has to do with thoughtfulness, patience and persistence of people. Conscientiousness or compliance relates to organization and structure.

Those with drive as their highest trait are usually active at handling challenges and problems, while those who are low in this category are the opposite, often requiring a lot to commit. Those who score high influence are known to have powerful influence just through their activity and talking. These people are usually emotional. People low in influence are more inclined to follow facts and data over feelings. High in the steadiness category means that a person looks for security and stable pace. These individuals do not favor unexpected or sudden changes. Those who score low in this category love variety and change. Those with compliance personalities adhere to all structure and rules, while those low in this may challenge the norm and seek independence.

The online DiSC assessment is a test accessible on the Internet. This is used for many different purposes and the results are applicable in numerous real-life situations. The exam analyzes personality traits.
