Discount Checks And Money Saving Tips

By Greg Richard

Lint left in the dryer unattended wrecks havoc on your energy bill. The dryer has to work twice as hard. With the average dryer costing about 50 cents an hour to run, lint build up will run up energy charges. Cloths lines and drying racks save money.

Thrift shops can save dollars when shopping for household items. Garage sales, Goodwill have many useful items often selling at pennies on a dollar.

Barber shop visits can dropped if you learn how to cut hair yourself. By paying attention to how a barber cuts hair, all you have to do is duplicate their technique. If you are not that brave, by trimming your hair, you can stretch visits into months in between cuts.

Skipping visits to the local Starbucks or local coffee store is as simple as bringing your own thermos along. If you're a latte drinker, it's even more money out of your pocket. If you take the time to buy your favorite whole bean or French roast coffee and grind it you'll duplicate the taste of expensive store bought coffee.

Economizing during hot temperature is expensive if you use air conditioning. An average window unit's average cost is 16 cents a minute to run. Compare that with a 42-inch ceiling fan that costs 11-cents to run for an entire 40 hours and it might make you think about switching over to a fan for most days.

Save money on entertainment by going to free outdoor concerts. Many of the top orchestras perform free concerts especially in the warmer months. Instead of going to a Broadway professional theater play at $100 or so a ticket, why not a high school or college play at less than ten dollars. Same story line, and who knows, the acting might be excellent. Or, consider staying home and renting a movie for a movie night with popcorn and refreshments. There probably are public gardens, parks, nature hiking trails and tons of free stuff in your back yard. Entertainment is one of those categories you can save loads of money on.

Every bank marks up their price of checks by a hundred percent or so. That's because they purchase their checks from an outside source. You can buy discount personal checks direct from the check printer and save 50% and even get a larger choice of designs.

Another tip is pre-treating stains when washing. Hydrogen peroxide is a great stain remover when mixed one part with detergent and one part with some water in a spray bottle. No need to buy expensive stain pretreatments. Also white vinegar is an inexpensive fabric softener.
