While there are numerous men working in the ministry, there are fewer women. Women typically work in Sunday School and other areas of the church while men are ministers, pastors and priests. For the women whom do identify as clergy, clergywomen spiritual retreats Midwest can offer a great deal of support to those working in these positions.

Most of these retreats are designed with female clergy in mind. Even so, most are open to all women whom are interested in attending. For, it is not only women in the clergy whom need to strengthen and renew spirit but women of all faiths and walks of life. In these cases, individuals often go on a spiritual journey in order to find a deeper connection to concentration, insight and a higher power. For some, this higher power is God, for others, it is consciousness.

When it comes to the official definition of a spiritual retreat, there are often as many definitions as there are religions. In many cases, a definition is a place in which people seek peace, unity, strength and spirituality through a number of activities and workshops. While not church, there is often a sense of spirituality regardless of faith or belief systems associated with the event.

In Buddhist and Hindu faiths, the events are often seen as a way of building and deepening insight and concentration. By participating, individuals often discover a stronger sense of self as well as a stronger connection to spirit. As such, regardless of faith, almost all activities and workshops work to build a stronger sense of spirituality within the individual.

Retreats based in the Christian faith are most likely a result of Christian churches who begin hosting the events based on the exercises of a saint. As such, activities and workshops at Christian retreats are based on the original exercises performed by St. Ignatius. Whereas, there may also be activities and workshops based on the requests of those attending the event.
