The Benefits Of Natural Shamanism And Practices

By Mary Roberts

Most often, those following any spiritual path have chosen to do so. While this is the case, there are others whom follow tradition and practices which have been handed down through generations. When it comes to Natural Shamanism, there are those whom believe that only descendants of ancient tribe leaders have the ability to follow this path. Whereas, there are also New Age believers which believe individuals can learn and abide by the spiritual aspects associated with the practice.

One of the best definition of shamanism is that it is a healing tradition and life path. For, the concept of the practice is to connect all of creation to nature. Coined by Anthropologists, the term was first used in relation to a Siberian tribe with regards to ceremonial and spiritual practices.

After learning that other indigenous tribes were using the term, it was discovered that shamanism was being practiced all over the world. After which, the work and practice became popular in different cultures. While the ancient practice is still active in Siberia and other areas of the world, the New Age form has now taken hold all over the world, while having found great popularity in the West.

Once this new form took hold, the practice became more popularized in relation to New Age spirituality. As a result, it is now difficult to differentiate the different forms of shamanism and whether the term refers to the ancient or modern aspects of the practice. While this is the case, when someone refers to esoteric shamanism, the individual is more than likely referring to the modern New Age aspect.

There are many people, especially those in indigenous tribes whom consider either practice to hold all the spiritual and universal wisdom of the world. For, it is often believed that Shamans are all knowing, all seeing people. As such, it is often believed these individuals have an inherent database of wisdom along with intuitive and psychic abilities.

Ancient shamans often believe that only the earliest Shamans and descendants have healing powers. For, it is believed that the ability and practice with regards to healing has been handed down through generations. Whereas, while there can be present day shamans, most indigenous tribes believe only those descended from ancient shamans have such power. In either case, it is often good to do a background check before providing payment to anyone whom claims to have cleansing or healing powers, a shaman or otherwise.

In fact, most shamans who provide healing in this day and age often do so on a voluntary basis. In most cases, the healer will request a donation, while sometimes recommending a nominal monetary value. While this is the case, as it is the duty of these individuals to heal others as well as animals, wild life, sea life, people and the planet, this is not always the case. In order to provide healing to others, those doing so often maintain an ongoing committed daily practice to achieve these and other shamanistic goals.

The ultimate goal of the practice is to create overall balance and well being. In the process, this daily practice allows practitioners to maintain harmony, not only within oneself but with all of creation. While some practitioners travel to spiritual sites as a method of strengthening body, mind and spirit, it is not required that one do so. Rather, it is the ongoing commitment to daily practice which can often be more effective in this regard over the course of time.
